Information on Recycling Programs in Tallahassee

City of Tallahassee Services

The City of Tallahassee has an information page on what can and cannot be recycled through the city’s program. There is also a printable PDF that covers different materials that can be recycled as well as the preparation needed before the should be put into the bin.

The city has a single stream recycling program, meaning that participants do not have to sort between glass, plastic or paper. Households are on a red/blue weekly schedule that determines bi-weekly pick-up for certain items. Address lookup for the red/blue schedule is available on the city’s website.

Large/Bulky items and yard waste are picked up according to the red/blue schedule (i.e. every other week).

While residential/Commercial construction debris can be picked up via scheduled appointment.

The city does not pick up hazardous waste. Instead, hazardous waste may be taken to the bi-annual "Cash For Trash” days that occur on the third Saturday of April and October, from 8 A.M. to 2 P.M. at the Solid Waste Services facility (2727 Municipal Way). Customers with an active garbage account will receive a total of $5.00 credit on their utility bill upon presentation of a current utility bill. Any questions about this can be answered at by the City of Tallahassee Utilities at 850-891-4968.

*Covid-19 might affect this event, please check the city’s website for more information.
