Things to Do This Weekend (May 17-19, 2019)

Highlights


Friday, May 17

Futurebirds with JB’s Zydeco Zoo, part of the Sundown Concert Series, is playing at the Capital City Amphitheater. The concert starts at 7 PM and goes until 10 PM. The event is free but it might be easier to park offsite and take the trolley.



Saturday, May 18

Two markets, Downtown Market and Frenchtown Farmer’s Market, are happening this Saturday. Both are worth a visit. Entry is free.

Maclay Gardens is hosting it’s 25th Annual Tour of the Gardens. It starts at 9 AM and goes to 5 PM. Tickets are $30 (advance) or $35 (at the door). The tour includes six residential gardens and the new community garden.

The Gadsden Arts Center and Museum in Quincy is hosting a showcase of prints from Normal Rockwell from the 1960s. Admission is free for children, $10 for non-members of the museum. Admission includes all exhibits. The museum opens at 10 AM and closes at 5 PM, guided tours need to be booked in advance.




The Next Week, May 20-23

May 20: The Knott House is celebrating Emancipation Day, with events starting at 10 AM and lasting until 4 PM. Admission is free.

May 21: The Challenger Learning Center’s RAZOR Lecture Series is presenting Deciphering Climate Change Throughout Geological History: How the Modern Record is Unprecedented. It is about the ‘importance of studying Earth’s climate throughout the geological record (100,000 to multi—millions of years ago)’ Great lecture for anyone who wants to learn more about climate science, geology or furthering their education. The event starts at 7 promptly and is free.

May 23: Midtown Reader’s book club is reading Educated by Tara Westover. Refreshments are provided. The group meets at 6 PM.
